Constitution

A couple of years ago, we went to a field trip to space. Our spaceship crashed into a Earth-like planet. All of our chaperones died. Only the kids were alive. So we thought to ourselves, “Since we’re going to be stuck on this new planet, why not create a new country?”  So we thought about how the United States was created.

The way we set up our group was similar to how the United States was created. The Constitutional Convention of May 1787 was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where delegates from 12 of the 13 states were present. It pretty much was that a group of people met together. It is similar to our story because we all met in one place like they all met in Philadelphia.

A difference that the Constitution had was that women were not allowed to vote. Women were not allowed to vote until 1920; 131 years later. We let everybody vote because it makes no difference if you are a man or a woman. Also, we didn’t have that many people so everyone had to vote.

The writers of our Constitution wanted to make sure that the new nation and its citizens would be free and independent. They wanted people to feel like they could do anything they want unless they don’t hurt anyone. We let our people do anything they want only if they aren’t harming anyone physically or mentally. This means that people can do anything unless they are not physically hurting, annoying, or disturbing someone.

The Constitution talked about the Bill of Rights and how it talks about the rights of every citizen. Congress can’t make any law about your religion, or stop you from practicing your religion, or keep you from saying whatever you want, or publishing whatever you want. (like a book) Also, Congress can’t stop you from meeting peacefully for a demonstration to ask the government to change something. (A peaceful protest) We also incorporated these rules into our constitution. You can believe in whatever you want, say what ever you want and do what ever you want.

I hope in the future that people can look up to this without being gloomy or angry. We tried our best and took opinions from all sides so there shouldn’t be any arguing in the future about this constitution.
