Fought in 1813, the Creek Indians wrecked Fort Mims and killed 500 people. When Andrew Jackson heard of the revolt, he led his militia to fight the Indians. Later on, in Spring of 1814, Jackson led his troops to a victory after attacking the Creek’s main base on the Tallapoosa River in Alabama. Jackson and the militia also succeeded in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. A couple days after the victory by Jackson, the leader of the Creeks, Red Eagle, surrendered. This made the Creek Indians give up millions of acres of land. (TEXTBOOK)

The war started because the farmers of Alabama wanted more land but the Creek Indians refused to give up their property. The war was also known as the red Stick war because the Creeks that were fighting were known as Red Sticksbecause of their bright red war clubs. Fort Mims isactually their own fort; the Red Sticks were revolting their own cheif at first. Once the Americans stepped in, 800 people died.(INTERNET)
I think that these few facts above should be inserted into the page in my textbook because they all change the story in some way. Of course, you can always find more information on the internet because there are more sources. In a textbook, you’re only limited to the words on the page.

The Star Spangled banner was written by Francis Scott Key. Key was present during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. He was on a British ship while the battle was taking place. The only way Key would know if America had one was if the flag was still standing tall in the morning. It was, and the Star Spangled Banner was born. It was originally written as a poem and then later put to the tune of a British drinking song. The Star Spangled Banner was officially our National Anthem 1931.

O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,

What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming?

O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

A few years ago, my mom was friends with someone who was obsessed with all things sports. To make the story short, he got me totally hooked on watching the New York Giants every Sunday. Even though I didn’t know what a penalty was, or what a first down was, I could tell that football was my kind of sport. Basketball always bored me, with the huge guys on the teeny little court, with a teeny little ball, putting it in a basket OVER and OVER again. Baseball was too slow. Yay, he hit the ball. In football, there are so many tings that can happen; games with no score, overtime, a foul that costs the team a game, a challenge that takes an HOUR to review. Well, you get the point. I quickly learned what everything was and how the game was played. Now I can spot a personal foul before the referees do.

Anyways, when I was about 8 years old, my mom and her friend took me and my brother to Draft Day at New York’s stadium in New Jersey. Let’s just say, it was one of the coolest tings ever besides actually going to a game. But, that’s a story for another time. So, Draft Day. We went in May and it was not the prettiest day. I think that April had one more shower left in it. It was raining our whole car ride to NJ. It wasn’t downpouring, thank goodness, but rain is rain either way and I hated it. When we got there we had to walk to the stadium, and finally, the rain was letting up. We got to the door leading into the indoor part of the stadium, below the bleachers. We walked through, and to this day I can still remember that there was a Verizon booth on the left and a Barberino Booth on my right. As we walked through the stadium, towards the door behind the goal post that lead to the field, I could see the sun starting to shine. It was so unexpected and amazingly cool! It made me feel like i was in one of those movies where everything was going wrong and suddenly, the sun comes out and everything gets better.

So after scoping out the field and heading up to where the commentators sit when they commentate the games, we headed to “The Bubble”. And if you dont know what the bubble is, it is this HUGE bubble that you can go inside and its like a little building. It was pretty cool. We ate lunch there and played on one off those blow up boot camp things. Oh and I met some of the players! I have like 6 autographs. I know one is from the Center and another from an old linebacker. Of course, I dont know who any of them really were because it was 5 or so years ago that this all happened.

So, when we were waiting in line to meet the players and play on the blow up things, there were bowls with little nic-nacs and stuff and, being a kid who loves everything free and useless, I picked up this keychain.

It just has the New York Giants helmet on it and on the other side has a local sports radio station. I have had this ever since that day, hanging on my keys. I remember I dropped it and it broke and I litterally burst into tears, running in the house screaming for my mom to fix it. Thank go she did, or else my keys would be all lonely. There’s a dent in it and it’s all scratched and gross, but that just shows how much I use it, love it and could never part with it.

Did George Washington really cut down the cherry tree? Of course, no one can know for sure but there are facts to prove that the answer is yes or no.

According to suite101.com, an author by the name of Mason Locke Weems made up that story. In the story, George Washington had gotten a new hatchet as a young boy. He had cut down the cherry tree in his yard. His father came home and asked of he did it. Washington said, “I can’t tell a lie, Pa; you know I can’t tell a lie. I did cut it with my hatchet.”

We cannot be sure that Weems told the truth in his story. First of all, how would he know what happened? Was he there? Im thinking no. Secondy, Weems gloated that his best seling book was the Bible.. Hmmmm… did Mason Weems write the bible? Im not to sure..

My conclusion: Washington was reliable and trustworthy but the Cherry Tree story might not have happened. Weems is not a reliable author by the loks of it.

And then, I think I would put an expansion on myhouse so that I could have myown room and not have to share with mysister. I would make my brother’s room bigger because right now, it’s about the size of a shoe box.

There are many ways you could look at this. Strict construction means that the Bank can only make decisions based on the rules in the Constitution and cannot bend the laws in any way, shape or form. A loose construction basically means that the Bank can make reasonable choices and not have to worry so much about the rules in the constitution.

So, do you think that the bank should be loose or strict construction?
I think that the bank should be a loose construction because if they need to make a necessary change to benefit the bank, they can and won’t have to worry about what it says in the constitution as much as they would if the construction is strict.

What do YOU, the readers, think the construction should be? Leave me a comment!

Have you ever had the feeling of crawling up in front of the TV and taking a nap after eating the turkey at your thanksgiving dinner?

The myth: This is because turkey contains an amino acid called L-tryptophan. The L-tryptophan goes from you blood up to your brain. Our brain then transforms the L-tryptophan into another chemical called serotonin that helps us fall to sleep fast.

BUT L-tryptophan is only affective when eaten alone. Turkey contains plenty of amino acids which cancel out the L-tryptophan.

The truth: when you eat a big meal (Such as a big Thanksgiving dinner), it affects your blood flow. Your blood will go more to your stomach and less to your brain.

So, see? Don’t blame the turkey for the big pile of food on your plate Eat less to avoid the drowsiness.

Click here to see the website I used to get all this information: http://kidshealth.org/kid/talk/qa/turkey_sleepy.html#

Blogging has really changed my social studies class. The blogging challenge allowed me to meet new people and learn things that I didn’t already know about the students that actually lived in that country. Its interesting to know that there are kids exactly like you, across the world. I always thought it was cool to scroll through the list of students participating and seeing places like Romania. It was so interesting to interact with kids far away that are your age.

I think my favorite Student Blogging Challenge post was the one where we had to describe where we live. It was fun to do and to read. You get to tell other people how fun and different your hometown is and learn about others at the same time. (Click here to go to my post that I did!)

This is my post for The Student Blogging Challenge. ♥
