Andrew Jackson’s journey to presidency
February 2nd, 2010 by chadd

∏≡≈±—§•«∞¤†‡∩ΦΨΩθ♥θΩΨΦ∩‡†¤∞»•§—±≈≡∏
Jackson was orphaned at a young age, then he became interested in law, and became a lawyer. People told him that he should run for president, and that’s just what he did. The first time he ran for president he lost due to a sort of trickery. Then, he ran again and won to become the United States 7th president. Jackson then moved into the White House with the first lady, Rachael Jackson. I don’t think that he would have been a good president due to his upbringing, being passed between family members, and some bad desicions that he made in his childhood. But, then again; anything is possible, and those same reasons could have made him a wonderful, powerful, logical leader.

Actions & Intensions
January 27th, 2010 by chadd
I believe that we should judge people by their intentions because, most people can’t express the way they are feeling, or the way they mean something in terms or in ways that other people can easily understand them. However, I also believe that in certain circumstances, we should judge people on their actions no matter what their intentions. For example; a man, angry, drunk, armed, and fueled by adrenalin robs a convenient store and shoots and kills seven innocent people. I believe that no matter how angry, or intoxicated the man was he should face the consequences for his actions.

My, easy to read/sing, Star Spangled Banner
January 13th, 2010 by chadd
The following will be my depiction of the Star Spangled Banner’s first verse in easier to understand words and phrases.
This is the actual Star Spangled Banner:
Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
!!!There are other verses, but I’ll only be working with the first!!!
Can you see by the early morning’s light
How proudly we cheered at the dawns last shining
Whose vast stripes and bright stars through the dangerous fight,
Over the land we watched were so spiritedly flowing
And the rockets’ red shine, the bombs exploding in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
Say does that Star-Spangled Banner still wave
Over the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Old “Ironsides”
January 11th, 2010 by chadd
The United States Constitution. Ordered on March 1st, 1794. This great ship was built in Edmund Hartt’s shipyard, it cost 1797 dollars back in 1794, the equivalent of almost 9,500,000 current U.S dollars. The USS Constitution was christened and launched on the 21st of October, 1797. The ships maiden voyage was on the 22nd of July, 1798. The ship was also renamed twice; first, being renamed “Old Constitution” in 1917, and again being renamed “Constitution” in 1925. The home port of this ship was the Charlestown Navy yard. The most commonly used nickname was “old Ironsides”, and the ship took many cannonballs to the hull, and just would not sink. The USS Constitution is still in active servaice to this day, after seeing multiple restorations by the U.S Navy. The ship was a 44-gun frigate, with a displacement of 2,200 tons. The ship was 204′ in total length, and 175′ at the waterline. The beam of the USS Constitution was 43′ 6″, the foremast was 198′, the mainmast was 220′, the mizzen mast was 172.5′, and the depth of the hold was 14′ 3″. The ship was moved by three massive masts, and moved the ship to a top speed of 13 knots (or 15 mph). The ship also had landing craft and other boats on board:
(1x) 36 ft longboat
(2x) 30 ft cutters
(2x) 28 ft whaleboats
(1x) 28 ft gig
(1x) 22 ft jolly boat
(1x) 14 ft punt
This wonderful ship also carried 450 officers and enlisted, including 55 marines and 30 boys. Now, for the ships armament;
(30x) 24-pounder long guns
(20x) 32-pounder carronades
(2x) 24-pounder bow chasers
!!!More pics and historical facts coming soon!!!

My definition of symbolism
January 7th, 2010 by chadd
Have you ever asked yourself what a symbol is? Or Why do we have symbols? or even, Why do we make symbols? What makes a symbol special? What is a symbol, and what isn’t?
The truth is that anything can be a symbol, as long as it’s symbolic to you in some way. The person, place, or thing must make you feel a certain way to be symbolic of anything. To me a symbol is something a lot of people know the value, or meaning of, like the U.S flag. The thoughts conveyed by this flag are both good and bad depending on the person, and there are also people who simply don’t care, or don’t believe that the U.S flag is symbolic of anything. I believe that the U.S flag is symbolic of help (aid), and protection. Another example of symbolism is The Red Cross which I believe is symbolic of help, and care.
I believe that we create symbols when we are in need of hope, inspiration, or any other feeling that our life is lacking at any point in time. A great example of a symbolic item is a story a classmate of mine told today; She told us a story about her grandmother’s necklace. Her grandmother passed and she misses her very much, and to her the necklace is symbolic of her grandmother’s love and memories of time past that she spent with her grandmother.
I also believe that we need symbols because they help us get through tough times, and help set life goals. Symbols inspire us, guide us, and help us make important decisions on a daily basis.
The American flag is considered a symbol all over the world, a symbol of help, protection, aid, love, freedom, and patriotism.

Things that i love doing on this planet
January 7th, 2010 by chadd
I love to do almost anything outdoors; biking, swimming, playing sports, shooting, snowboarding, and soooooo many others. However, now that it is 2010, and a new year, I would like to start trying new things, new activities, new food, etc. Somethings that i want to try are rockclimbing, waterskiing, kyaking, hang-gliding, and parasailing. I get excited by almost any high risk, challenging, or extreme tasks that may find their way to me. I also love to draw and design, and do alot of work with computers. However, my gratest two passions are shooting and biking. One of the reasons that I’m so passionate about these things is because I’ve been doing them since i was pretty young. (biking since 2, shooting since 9). The other reason being that I’m really good at both. (usually I shoot around a score of 193-200, 200 being the highest possible score; equivilent to a bullseye in each target, and I can’t easily explain how well i can ride a bike, so I’ll just say better than most people my age can). Time is the only issue here, I shoot every Monday and also most weekends I have competitions. I also shoot airgun and archery in my back yard. Biking is when problems occur, I LOVE to bike, I’d do it every day if I could, but since 7th grade finding the time between sports, school work, and friends has been tough, and then the fact that i ride bikes ”into the ground” often brings up the money issue
In the future, I would love to become a world renowned shooting phenominon since i can shoot a perfect score at age 13, that’s extremely rare in the shooting sports. (and I’ve already competed on an international level, I mean I want to shoot for the U.S. in the olympics). And, becoming a pro mb (mountain bike) racer would be pretty nice, too. I shoot with men well into their 70’s, and hope to be shooting until I can’t anymore! I will be adding to this blog post as time goes on with more info on my shooting career.
