Immigration Rules in America

In Class, we talked about immigration and migration and we were assigned to make rules for immigrants so here are mine:

1) If you do not know the English language, you must be willing to learn the English language once you arrive.

2)Once you arrive to America, you must be vaccinated with various shots to prevent diseases that you could be carrying if your country has any.

3)We will give you money to get you going on your new life, or you can convert your currency to the U.S. dollar to receive money.

4)You must receive a legal identification of some sort to become a real American Citizen immediately. If not, you will be deported.

5)You must have legal visas.

Popularity = Power

Andrew Jackson was a smart, strong, brave, hot-tempered, and of course a popular man.  But will he make a good president? We think he would be a good president mainly for his popularity. He was a well-known man, everyone liked him, and he was also very kind. Along with his popularity, Jackson was a lawyer,  a Major General in the military, and also was the Governor of new Florida Territory.  Because of these things, this is what created him to be very well-known. Andrew Jackson also knows how to handle difficult situations because he was an orphan at a young age. He knew how to adapt to his surroundings so that will help him  in his presidency if there is any problem. Because of him being an orphan he was shipped around from relative to relative so he knew how to handle that very well also. The only major flaw he really had was his hot temper, but we think he will set that aside and become a very goodpresident.  -Ideas contributed by Christian G and Chris R

Bad Upbringing or Modern Society?

In class we were recently asked a question that can really get you thinking. The question was, “Should we judge people by their actions or their intentions? ” In this society we are brought up both ways. Most of the time your parents or guardians will give you a straight forward answer. “Oh this person listens to different music and dresses different, he must be a bad person!” That is totally wrong. Everyone has the right to be different, and that is all people are intending to be. Anyway, to answer the question I think you should judge them by both their intentions and actions. For example, say someone saw another person in danger, but that someone didn’t like the person in danger so they just walked away. You judge this person on their actions. Oh he’s a bad person in didn’t help another person in danger. Well it may not be his fault. He could be brought up to get revenge on the people you dislike. So maybe this person’s actions are his intentions. You can only judge a person when you get to know them so you know their intentions and how they act. Like the old saying, you don’t know until you have really tried…

Our National Anthem: History and Meaning

542405087_a08573d4003690604619_21d2031a04Fort McHenry Everyone has sung, seen, and heard our contry’s national anthem atleast over 100 times in their life. We hear and sing the words all the time, but we barely pay attention to the words.  Its like walking, you just do it and you don’t know the actual meaning for it sometimes. If you actually read the words of our National Anthem then it may get you thinking; Are these words really historically accurate? and What do they actually mean? Well that is what I am going to help you with. We watched a movie in class about the War of 1812 and the movie was 100% historically accurate. Francis Scott Key, the man who wrote the words for the National Anthem, was an American prisoner on one of the British ships that were attacking Fort McHenry. He watched the fort in amazement. He wrote this song because the British were bombarding the fort with rockets and cannonballs. While all this was happening the flag was still waving above the fort with no damage to it. Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thru the perilous fight, O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

My translation: Oh say can you see, by the morning’s early light, that we cheered so proudly from the sun’s bright light. Whose large stripes and bright stars, through the dangerous fight, over the mounds of earth we watched, were so bravely flowing? And the rockets’ red light, the bombs bursting in air, showed proof through the night that our flag was still standing. Oh say, does that glittering star banner wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave?

A Significant Representation

Most people will probably read this title and have no idea what it means.  This title, is basically my definition of a symbol. Symbols are everywhere. Anyonr or anything in this entire universe can be a symbol. To me, a symbol is personal. Even though someone else might have knowledge of the symbol you are thinking of, it is still your own because your brain thinks of it that way. Symbols are created by past experiences. For example, some people still keep their family membes old clothes, and jewelry. The reason for this is because it symbolizes something that the person has done in the past. People need symbols to almost give them a little reminder of something. Some people can look at a symbol and just not even care. But another person can look at it in a totally different way and it can so a huge amount of meaning to them. I consider the American a symbol because it represents events that happened in old America. There is actually a  lot of symbolism in this flag. The 50 stars represent the 50 states we have in America. The 13 stripes on the flag represent the original 13 colonies that rebelled against the British monarchy and became the first states in America. People need symbols, sometimes they are for importance or sometimes they need them to give them a little reminder of the past.

Hockey Is A Passion.

1980 Miracle On Icehockey_stick_and_a_puckYou can only guess what my passion is… and if you guessed hockey, then you are correct! Considering since half of my blog posts are about hockey, no one should have guessed wrong. Well like I said in a previous blog post, I have been playing hockey for 7 years. Since it is the start of the New Year, I now have been playing for 8 years and I love it. The reason I love Hockey so much is because there is so much energy and adrenaline in the sport. I don’t really need to find time to do it, I always go to my games and practices. I don’t go because I have to, but I go because I choose to because I love the sport so much. In my passion, I would like to try and be able to block off hits better, but my size holds me back from that. The good thing is that i can skate around people because of my speed and I am eventually going to get taller.  I see my passion in my future by me persuing a career in hockey. I am not saying I want to be in the NHL necessarily but I will try. My dream is to have some type of career that has to do with the game of hockey. Hockey is most players passion, and we love the sport.

Hero

My definition of a hero is someone that is extraordinary. A hero is someone that everyone looks up to. In my opinion, anyone can be a hero. A hero also does something for someone else. A hero aslo has strong leadership skills and creates a good image. The hero I have chosen, is Alex Ovechkin. Alex ovechkin is one of the best professional hockey players in the NHL. I have always looked up to him because of his skills. He is a great teammate and is never selfish.

Student Rights

Most kids do not have many rights in school these days. One right I think students should have in class is that students should be able to eat food in class as long as it is not a huge meal or it is not distracting or disturbing anyone in the classroom.  Students  should also be able to listen to music in their class and if it is interfering with their work, then that is their fault. Another right is that the students should be able to chew gum as long as it isn’t being loud or annoying, otherwise they will have to spit it out. Students should also not have to take passes to places once the first half of the year is over. Once the first half of the year is over, by then the teachers should have gained the  student’s trust and they will be able to go without passes, if they aren’t trusted, they cannot go. At lunch time,  students are not aloud to visit tables  if they have food in their hands. I think we have the right to visit because by the time we are done eating, we only have 1 minute left to visit and that gives us very little time. 2768163918_f9d7699341
