andrew_jacksonFor most people, the events in your life make you who you are today and inspire you to do other things in you life like accomplish your goals and succeed in the future. For example, if you experience the loss of a family member, some people grieve forever because of that loss, while others stay strong and live their lives.  Or if you had a hard life, some of those people get up after they have fallen down. Andrew Jackson experienced so much pain from his life. He lost his brother in war. Andrew and his younger brother were on their way to help free him when they were captured.Andrew’s mother freed them from prison but his brother and his mother died. Andrew still wanted to have a future and make the best out of life, even though he became and orphan.

What do you think?

Have you ever had someone who acted like a jerk to you no matter what they did and bullied and picked on you or others? I bet that sometime in your life you went home and said how much you hated the person and how obnixous they were. But did you ever think of why the person acted that way? Did you ever stop to think that mabey, just mabey, that person had something going on that caused them to act that way. That they didn’t mean to act like a jerk and a bully and that was  there way of trying to make a friend and that they are insecure or possibly they are having problems at home.

In class, myt teacher asked us a very difficult question, should you judge someone by their actions or their intentions. We had a discusion and i’ve learned what others had to say. To me it depends on the situation. If a person is raised to act for example, racist or to swear a lot and start drama, I feel that thats what they mabey experiencing at home or with and older sibling. On the flip side, I feel that once you have matured and learned all of your rights and wrongs, even if you’ve had a tough home life or had many problems, you should be able to see what you should and shouldn’t do. Also like a toddler if they hit someone, they are still growing and maturing and they don’t know what is right and what isn’t. Another example is say a child was trying to trip someone, not wanting to hurt them but they fell and broke their leg. In that case I would say that if it wasn’t intentional then you shouldn’t judge them by their actions. They are just a young kid and they don’t have the maturity to think before they do something. On the news about a few years ago, a teenager about 17 was hanging with his friend who was around the same age.

From Generation to Generation

cmiller  For my social studies class we had an assignment on What the American Flag symbolizes to people. We had to ask 15 people, five from our generation, five from our parents generation, and five from our grandparents generation. After my interviews I took all of the things the people said about or flag and put it on Wordle. I could definitely see the difference from what my grandparents said to what my best friend said. I really learned a lot  about how the American Flag effects people in different ways.

The Stars and Stripes

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched,
were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was
still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Above is the first verse of a song by Francis Scott Key, who was a successful attorney who was also a poet. The star spangled banner was a poem of what Francis saw through his eyes. It was publish, turned into a song, and now it’s the national anthem. When some people read  this they don’t really hear and see the powerful meaning that it has. In my eyes, behind all the fancy words, I think it means.

What do you see in this morning?

Honoring what we see at night, before the morning

Seeing the flags stars and stripes in the danger of night.

Seeing the parts left by war machines flying through the air.

The fireworks from the cannons flying through the air, and the bombs bursting in the air.

Showed everyone that not only was the flag still standing but it symbolized that us americans stayed together and stayed strong.

The flag still waves showing us that we are a free and brave country.

I think that the star spangle banner is historically accurate. Some people may say it doesn’t make sense but you have to look past the fancy words then you will see that he is describing what he saw poetically.  At Fort McHenry, Francis was seeing the bombs bursting and the gun sparks flying, his birth country staying strong.

Ever heard of the war of 1812? If you haven’t it was one of the most important wars in America. It is called the forgotten war because it is not recognized as much as other wars such as World War I and World War II. A very strong and brave first lady at the time was part of this war. Her name was Dolly Madison. Dolly was born on May 20, 1768 in Guilford County, Noth Carolina. Her parents were both Quakers and she was the fourth of eight children. Dolly was five six with dark hair and blue eyes. When the war of 1812 was heating up Dolly risked her life for a painting, yes you heard it right, a painting. The painting was of General George Washington. She felt that that painting would be an important part of history someday. As the british came ready to burn the white house, Dolly took the painting down from the wall leaving her precious home to burn. If you had to evacuate you house if it was going to be burnt down, what would you have to save?http://http://www.whitehousehistory.org/04/subs/04_b_1812.html

Telling a story without the words….

Symbols have been around forever. Many common symobls are peace signs, the American flag and much more. A symbol, in my opinion, is something that  has a special meaning to someone. I feel that symbols are created when either someone is going through a hard time and they want something to give them courage and hope instead of hearing someone tell them that everyting is going to be alright. It can also be a memory of something symbolizing how far someone has come or to remember happy times.  It can give someone a sense of comfort. The American flag, one of the most common symbols, i feel, symbolizes freedom, liberty, strength and courage. It is considered a symbol because it tells a story without using words. The flag shows what has happened in our  past and that Americans will never back down or give up. <3

Whenever a new year starts, people always make resolutions to what they will start doing or what they will quit doing. Most people don’t do things they are passionate about. This year, i hope to do something with either my passion for sports or music.  I would really like to do better in track and softball. I am also determined to do something more with music. I love playing the piano so I would like to do more in whatever way I can.

As a class we just finished making our movie, my movie was on my 19th century hero, Maria Mitchell. Making a movie was fun but challenging. You had to make sure you found the right music to flow with the script and making the movie not to long or short..

A hero, in my eyes, is someone who accomplishes

things that make a difference in a positive way.

A hero is someone who does things that make you

want to be like them when your older and a hero

does these things not for money or an award.

My hero today is my mom becauses she has accomplished things and been through so many hardships that would bring someone down but she never let it get to her and it never brought her down or discouraged her. I hope to be like her when i grow up. <3
