My Constitution Story – Similarities and Differences
On Monday we went on a field trip in a spaceship and something went terribly wrong – we lost all of the teachers in the crash and we were stuck on this planet and had to establish an entire new leadership with rules and laws. We need to live on this planet which we named planet X. We will develop a constitution to live by and follow it will have six basic rules.
First thing we need to do is choose a leader. Then the leader will choose his assistants. We will all that lives on the planet vote and agree on the major rules to live by: Justice,Peace,Defense,Welfare, Freedom and Future. Then we need to decide how to make these rules our own kind of Constitution. Once established we need to have everyone sign the rules in agreement.
The six rules we decided upon are: Justice - Everyone will be allowed to speak their opinion with out being harmed. If not the leader will send away the person who was treating them unfair. No fighting allowed, people will work together to survive on our Planet X. Defense – Traps will be built to protect and defend our Planet. Everyone is allowed a weapon. Welfare- Each is responsible to clothe and shelter themselves. Freedom – People allowed to practice any religion, killing animals for food only allowed if the animal is in abundance. Future – Everyone will seek a way back to earth. The future relies on what we make of it.
Writing the rules was kind of an easy task for us, but back during the Consitution days, it seemed to be more difficult for the men writing them. Our Planet was able to learn by their mistakes when we developed our rules. We took our time and everyone voiced their opinion. We listened to what each had to say when writing the rules. Thinking about what might happen if we put their rule into place. Trying not to put a rule down that we will not be able to live by.
The similarities in the rules we had were that our leader was to help form the processes, but the leader is not going to be the end all be all, and cannot veto our rules. We have a document that everyone will sign.
The differences in the rules we had were that the Constitution talked about the rights of people and every person is a citizen. In our Planet we don’t want a Congress to stop you from your religion, or keep you from saying what you want. We don’t want people to not meet and talk about changing things on our planet. On Planet X everyone can vote on the laws! Not letting some vote and some not, all should take part.
Looking back on all of this it was not too difficult, but perhaps if we had nothing to go on we too might have had a mess on our hands like they did in the early days of establishing the Constitution. We were able to develop ours by learning by their mistakes. Hopefully we will be okay and not have complete chaos.

Dear Edward,
Excellent post! Very thoughtful and well-written! I give you an A+!
You mentioned you would choose leaders. What do you look for in a leader? Have you ever been one? What’s difficult about leading people?
