Chief Tecumseh

February 25th, 2011 by

I learned a lot about Chief Tecumseh that I didn’t learn when I was reading my textbook.  The book leaves out many things about Chief Tecumseh, it pretty much only says he was the leader of a tribe, went for war against America and had a brother. If I were to put some more information into the textbook I would say more facts about Tecumseh and his brother. I would include facts like where Tecumseh lived. Tecumseh lived where Ohio is now. I would also include that Tecumseh and his tribe lost the battle. The textbook doesn’t specifically say that Tecumseh lost the war against America. The American people disturbed the Indian land anda war between the Indians and americans broke out.  The textbook also really bores me. I don”t find myself wanting to read the textbook. I think that in order to make it more interesting Iwould connect it to something that a lot of Middle Schoolers can relate to and is more interesting. An example is students sharing a locker and one person triesto kick the other student out and the student puts up a fight and doesn’t want to leave the locker, then the student loses and is forced to to move to a different locker. This is pretty much the situation Tecumseh was in where Americans wanted the Indians to leave their territories and the Indians fought the Americans because they didn’t want to leave their land.

First American Circus

February 6th, 2011 by

In the 19th century (1793), the first American circus came out. A lot of people didn’t know this, including me. This may not seem like a big deal to America now days, but it is more important than you think. The first circuses came soon after the country was made. There were not very many American citiens in the country and the idea of a circus was drawing many people to America. People liked going to the circuses. Im sure the circuses back then were different from the circuses there are today, but it still got many people to come to America. People have a lot of fun at circuses and they enjoyed themselves at them. This should be taught to more students, in more classrooms because the first circuses played a big part in american history.

History and Leaders

January 31st, 2011 by

Do leaders make history or does history make leaders? If I were to answer this question, I would have to say that leaders make history. If you were truly a good leader then people would remember you for how you were so many years later everyone would remember you because of who you were and how you helped. I also think that history can make great leaders because someone a while ago can influence things today. For example George Washington was known for being a great leader, but he is also known for being the first president of the United States. Ithink that history can make good leaders and leaders can make history. Although history can make leaders and leaders can make history, I think that leaders making history is more common.

A Leader To Me.

January 31st, 2011 by

Someone who is a leader to me is my mom. She may get on my nerves sometimes and I may get mad at her, but I appreciate her a lot. My mom is a nurse and helps sick people everyday, these people in the hospital can’t even go to the bathroom on their own, that’s how sick they are, and she has to take care of them and take care of me and my five siblings. I don’t know how people can go through life without a mom. My mom means so much to me and I can’t imagine not having her there. I can always go to her for advice and I really appreciate having her there with me. She is unselfish and caring towards me but disciplines me at the same time. My mom takes me out to buy clothes with money she works for, she pays for food and accessories for me also. My mom loves me and tells me all the time. She deserves respect and I have a lot of respect for her. Sometimes I see people being so rude to their parents and i could never imagine being like that to my parents. I would feel so guilty. I love both of my parents and i am really glad to have them. (:

Significant objects

January 23rd, 2011 by

The significant objectssection that we did, I really enjoyed. I had a great time doing this lesson because I have a lot of of objects that have a very special meaning to me, so I could connect to it. I thought it was a great challenge to try to connect an object to history. I think that this lesson should definitely be taught in years to come because not only was it really fun and made me want to come to class, but it ACTUALLY helped me learn and made me not want to zone out and not pay attention. This project let me be creative and think of a clever story and make significance of an object that I could care less about like, a charred piece of wood, an acorn, or a candle. I think the reason I liked it so much is because it WAS a project but I enjoyed doing it. I think more teachers should do things like this in class because it helped me learn. Most of the time I don’t like paying attention that much because sitting in a chair for what seems like forever is so boring. This project made me be creative and let me move around and let me interact with other people. It was great to do a project and actually learn from it, most of the time I am more worried about finishing the project than I am about learning what the project is about. I think this lesson should definitely be taught in the next couple years.

Leadership

January 13th, 2011 by

If you want to be a leader, there are some qualities you might want to keep in mind to be a good leader. A leader should be open to new things and willing to listen to other people’s ideas. A leader should also not get distracted very easily. Some people naturally are born being a good leader and others have to practice being a good leader. One time I was a leader while playing manhunt because it was boys against girls and my cousins wanted me to be the leader. I didn’t do a very good job at being a leader because  I get distracted very easily. I can look at the ground, see a rock and get distracted, I’m not kidding, it has happened before like ” WOAH LOOK AT THAT ROCK IT LOOKS SO COOL!” Of course, when I play mahunt I get really into the game and feel like I am actually being hunted so I try not to get distracted as much, but when I play against my brother and my cousin, there are very slim chances that my team is going to win because they are WAY taller than me and my cousins and stronger tan us so they can like grab us and we can’t get free and then they steal or flag. I am not always the leader however, once when I was on my brothers team, I actually had a chance, so he was the leader and my house has a patch of bushes in the back of it, so we hid in there with my cousins and waited for my cousins on the other team to come and we grabbed them and distracted them and got their “flag”. Which was just a soccer ball. I think that anyone can be a leader but some leaders are just better than others, for example I don’t lead very well but someone else might. I am a leader with some things because I try to set examples for my little siblings and my family. I am sort of good at being a leader because I like to be creative and when I am creative it helps. I consider myself a leader for some things more than others, because I get distracted a lot, but I also love to be creative and think outside the box so that helps me be a good leader.

Lamborghini

January 4th, 2011 by

Lamborghini is my little stuffed animal shown in the picture below. This object, most likely had no meaning to anyone reading this, but this object has plenty of meaning to me. When I was 6, I had gone to my moms friend Katrina’s house for her son Colby’s first birthday. At the party all the kids were running and horsing around, I fell and fractured my pinkie. I had to go get a cast on my pinkie and leave the party. My grandpa bought me this little toy to make me feel better because I had to keep a cast on my hand. Well, I was only six and I heard of the car Lamborghini from my brother being a 9 or 10 at the time talking about cars, and I didn’t care at all that it was a car, I cared that the name of the car made me think of lambs, which is how Lamborghini got it’s name. This object is significant to me because my grandpa is very special to me and I will always look up to him and respect him. Lamborghini has magnetic feet and they all clamp together. Whenever I pick up Lamborghini I wrap its legs around my left pinkie finger, the one I broke and it makes me think of my grandpa.

Constitution

December 23rd, 2010 by

When you are reading the Constitution, you should take things it says very strictly, rather than loosely because the constitution is written so that things are done a certain way, and if someone does not follow the Constitution then they can do something wrong. For example, this is like building a model car, when you read the instructions and follow them word for word and do exactly what the instructions  say then the car will turn out better than if you just wing it. This is how the constitution should be interpreted, word for word.

George Washington And The Cherry Tree

December 21st, 2010 by

Some people have heard the story that George Washington had chopped down his fathers cherry tree when he was younger and refused to lie that he cut the tree down when his father asked. However the story never happened people heard the story from a man who wrote a book on George Washington shortly after he died and in this book, he told the story of the cherry tree. The man who wrote the book made up the story of the cherry tree to show how honest George Washington was and to show how lying is not a good thing to do. Alas The story of the cherry tree never happened.

U.S Navy, Past and Present.

December 21st, 2010 by

Some similarities and differences between the old Navy shipsand the new Navy ships are that, The old Navy ships were not made of a lot of metal, however the Navy ships today have lots of metal and plastic rather than wood. Also a difference is that the ship was made to attack other ships like its own so it had different weapons because it would not need super strong weapons to take down another ship because the ship was made of wood rather than metal and today there are higher quality weapons to take down better structured ships. Also the older ships had much taller masses than the ships today. The old Navy ships didn’t have motors, like the ships today do. The last difference is that the ships in the old Navy were probably a lot smaller than the ships there are today.
