I believe that the most important right in the Bill of Rights is the first amendment. The first amendment gives us the right to practice whatever religion we want or need to. It also gives us the right to publish any thing we want to in a newspaper or book. Another important part of the first amendment is that we can say whatever we want to, AND congress cannot stop people from peacefully meeting for a demonstration to stop something we don’t want. This is all important because the U.S. was made for people that wanted to be free. Being free means that you can do all of the above and more (all in the Bill of Rights). People should always be able to practice a religion that is important to them. Also important, saying what you want and publishing what you want. That lets us speak our minds without holding back. That’s a good thing (I mean that we can say what we want). This amendment impacts us today. Many people with many different religions live in the U.S. Nobody can stop these people from practicing their religion, because that may be why the people live here. An example- one of my best friends is Muslim. She gets to practice that religion without a problem. That is how it should be. People can say whatever they want. That is SO important. Presidents wouldn’t make very good speeches, kids wouldn’t write very good papers, but this right makes it so we can. We can express our feelings this way. So many books that come out nowadays are quite good. They probably wouldn’t be if there were laws about what we could publish. We would have some pretty lame newspapers.
