Tecumseh ~ text book vs. internet

Do text books really give you all the information you need… or only a small portion?

Well when I was researching Tecumseh I learned a lot more about him from internet reasources than my text books little summery.

TEXTBOOK INFO:

- Tecumseh was an Indian.

-He was a Shawnee chief, a skilled man, and was a very good speaker.

- Tecumseh warned other tribes about other settlers.

-He wanted to make the American Indians the south and the eastern Mississippi Valley into a single confederation to oppose the American settlers

- Him and his brother united these tribs and got more people to join them.

-He was a threat to William Henry Harrison

-Tecumseh told Harrison about how all the Indians werent happy about the treaty.

-Tecumseh thought that the whites didn’t deserve to to take land from them just because they had it first.

-Harrison told Tecumseh not to resist the power of the United States.

- Tecumseh means shooting star.

- Born in 1768 in Old Piqua, along the Mad River in Ohio.

- raised by his eldest brother, Chiksika, and his sister, Tecumpease.

- Tecumseh’s first military encounter occurred against an army led by George Rogers Clark into the Ohio Country in 1782.

- early 1800s, Tecumseh decided that the best way to stop white advancement was to form a confederacy of Indian tribes west of the Appalachian Mountains.

- He also believed that, if the Indians united together, they would have a better chance militarily against the Americans.

-Tecumseh told governor Harrison that he wanted to take back the treaty because the Indian’s had the land before the Americans came.

- The Americans invaded Canada and killed Tecumseh during the Battle of the Thames.

-Tecumseh became a hero and was remembered by Canada for his defense of the country

~The internet really help give more details and also the text book left out some really important stuff that should be taught.

Have you ever wondered how old the hotel you were staying in was? Well if your staying in The Grand Union Hotel, in Saratoga Springs; then it’s pretty old! The Grand Union Hotel, was the first hotel in America! it was built by a city founder Gideon Putnam, who began this as Putnam’s Tavern and Boarding House in 1802. The original building would not have been considered a true hotel, because the vision of a “modern” hotel was invented by an American architect named Isaiah Rogers later in 1823. This hotel had 10 windows across the front, whitewashed exterior, and dark shutters. The structure was 70 feet long, three stories high, and had 70 guestrooms. Over the time the building was expanded to over twice its original size. Following Gideon Putam’s death in 1812, Doanda took charge of the boarding house until 1836. The name of the boarding house was changed to Union Hall sometime around Doanda’s death.

When I was younger, my grandpa gave me a coin from the 1800’s and I always kept it with me. It helped me win basketball games, helped me get through big tests and other galactic things too. This is something not many people have…we call it a good luck charm. John Adams, the president at the time, had something special that kept everything together for him. He always kept it in his pocket and it was like his good luck charm that he always had with him. He even had it when he got elected for president, and that’s when he knew it was his lucky charm. His lucky charm was so little but sob compelling, a button. Adams wanted to make peace with France, so he sent over a diplomatic team to Paris to repair the damage caused by Jay’s Treaty and the Citizen Genet affair. John Adams was hoping that his lucky charm would help complete his mission to make peace with France. On their way to France, they were hit by a huge wave and almost got capsized. The diplomats thought that they the lucky button. But they had to complete their mission so moved on. After arriving in France the three U.S diplomats- Thomas Pinckney, John Marshal and Elbridge Gerry. The French foreign minister Charles Talleyrand would not speak to them. Intead they were visited in secret by French agents who said that Charles would only talk about the treaty if they pay him $250,000 bribe and a 12 million to the French Government. The diplomats refused and when they got back on the boat they were worried because of the lost button.But when they returned to the US they told John Adams they failed there mission without the lucky button. Adams was more angry about the French insult, but he gave congress papers describing the french terms and substitued the letters X, Y, Z for the names of the french agents.Federalist in Congress called for war with France. A couple years later John Adams was tired of this undeclared naval war, so he wanted to go back to France to try and make peace again. When they got on the boat, they found the lucky button laying on the ground! John was so happy and truly believed that his lucky button would help him in his mission to making peace with France. As a matter a fact, it did! France and the U.S finally made a peace treaty, only with the help of his lucky button. And right here in our hands, we lay John Adams lucky button.

The Story of Little Lamby.

You all are probably thinking in your heads right now that this stuffed animal lamb, is just a lamb. For a matter a fact, it is NOT just a lamb. This is Lamby, my first stuffed animal out of the million I have had. You see, my parents had gotten my older sister a lamb at the toy store even before she was born. They gave her the stuffed animal on the day she was born. However, when I came along, they didn’t have an animal for me yet because I was born early so they weren’t expecting me so soon. Therefore, while my mother was in labor, instead of comforting her, my dad ran down the stairs of the hospital to a little gift shop they had near the lobby. He found a lamb and he just had to get it for me. So he bought the lamb and ran upstairs as he first saw his new daughter being born and gave me the lamb. I still have the lamb now, and I refuse to throw it out, because maybe the stuffed animal has no value, but the story behind it truly does

On December 21st, 2012 I will prove to the world that we are not going to die from the earth ending. Everyone says that on this date the world is going to end.. i most certainly do NOT agree with that at all. Just becasue the Mayan calender stoped at 2012 does not mean the world is going to end. I mean who knows? Maybe the person who was making the calender got tierd… i mean they can’t make calenders until forever, they had to stop at some point. But some people do say that it has something to do with the planets. But how would the Mayans know better then our technolegy? They wouldn’t. Anyways on this date I would be 16 years old, and I will be the 1st 16 year old to prove somthing to the whole world. I will also make a speech to pronounce to the people on this planet on how I beleived the Earth would stay the same.

Old- largest ship, equipped with 100-112 guns. It has 3 gun decks and would a average 2,500 tons. Also staffed with 850-875 sailors, one marine for each gun, a marine captain and 3 marine subalterns.

Now- heavily armed and armored warships designed to engage other warships and provide shore bombardment

Washington’s Cherry Tree- Legend or Fact?

Yes, the story that we all know about how George Washington cutting down his fathers Cherry tree is indeed… NOT true! I have the proof from Mason Locke Weems. He wrote a biography on George Washington just for the money. But he did not know anything about Washington, or very little about him; so most of the biography is made up. He claims that what the crowd needed was something new to talk and think about, no matter if it was true or not. So maybe George didn’t cut down his fathers cherry tree with his small hatchet for no reason, but he was a great leader for America.

Best Question in the world: What would happen if…?

My Question: What would happen if I was never born?

Well I have always wondered how my death would effect others lives. Now I switched that thought around; what would happen if I was never even alive? Don’t you ever wonder the same thing? How would it change my friends, family and even my enemies lives? Sometimes I wish i could take a day off from life and see how people would react differently. Like this cartoon I watched when I was younger; The Fairly Odd Parents. When this boy has fairys and gets any wish he wants. So one wish he demanded was that he was never born. He was a gohst now, and him and his fairy’s go to see all his friends, family and people from school without them seeing him… or even knowing him. He watched how they were different without him, and how he impacts on their lives. I would love to do that for a day! So this is my question, what would happen if I were never born?

My sister would be an only child.

My group of friends could not even be friends.

My parents would have more money!

So…. what do you think?

The elastic cause is technically; you can bend the rules of the constitution, but you can’t bend them too much that you break them. I agree with the elastic cause because, there are obviously some rules in the constitution people probably don’t even know exist. So how would they know not to do a certain thing, if its not obvious? Well I guess what Strict means is that everyone will learn the rules of the constitution and follow them exactly…

Anyways, I agree with the elastic cause because say a rule is that you can’t go over 70mph on the highway.. well what if your sister is pregnant and you HAVE to drive 80mph to the hospital. Thats one way of streching the elastic without it breaking, huh?
