This is an update of a post…Me Teaching… This Should be Interesting

In the beggining of the year, the class had to write a post about what they would do if they could be a teacher for a day. At that time I answered, “ I wouldn’t be so strict and I’d be more understanding of what students are going throught.” I still stick by what i said before, but i have more to add. If i was a teacher, I wouldn’t judge anybody. Sure it’s okay to have an opinion of a person, but i feel teachers don’t just have an opinion, they make it clear whether they do or don’t like you. If  I’m ever a teacher, i would strictly grade my students on how well they are doing in my class, not who they hang out with or whether they talk in class. If a student wants to talk and another does too, it’s their choice, not the teachers. As long as it’s quitely I would allow it. I feel now thought, the thing teachers do the most, is judge. Children are not in school for advice about who they should or shouldn’t hang out with. If somebody wants to hang out with somebody, they will! I feel now, if a teacher doesn’t like one person that someone hangs out with, they automanically “dumb-down” anyone that hangs out with the person that’s not liked. I feel this is wrong on the teachers part and they should strictly focus on the work.

PERRY’S VICTORY

If I wrote the section “Perry’s Victory” in my history book i would have definatly elaborated more on the challenges Oliver Perry faced during battle. The book just states, that “the battle lasted for more than three hours and resulted in heavy casualities for both sides.” After looking into some of the troubles Oliver Perry went through i found out that things started going wrong even before he set off, which the book didn’t mention. Before he set off to war, Perry found out there was a shortage in supplies and men. During the war, some heavy casualties were, on the British ships, most of the senior officers were wounded or killed. I think that the book should have written more detail about the war because without it, the reader can’t really understand what the people were going through.

OLD ELIZABETH!!!!

After researching women from the 1800s i found one and I knew that was the one i wanted to write about. The womens name is Old Elizabeth. After reading her story she became an insperation to me. This women was African American and was born in 1766, which was a time when slavery was still used…ALOT! As a young child she was born into slavery. How would that feel, being born and having absolutly no control of what you can do woth your life. Luckly she got to live with her parents..until she was..eleven. Can you imagine being seperated from your parents when your eleven?! She was sold to another owner, and that owner lives several miles away from where her parents were working as slaves. Old Elizabeth asked her owner if she could go and visit her mother because she hasn’t seen her in a long time. her owner replied with “no”. Old Elizabeth went to see her mother anyways, against the word of her owner. She set off and walked 20 miles to see her mother! After saying with her mother for several days she set back to her owner. As she returned, her owner wasnt pleased with her, so he tied her to a rope and lashed her. A few months after she was lashed she moved back to her mothers farm, where she was sold again to her 4th owner. This man didn’t believe in slavery, so at the age of 13 she was set free and was never a slave again. Olf Elizebeth was very religious so after she was set free she went to religious ceremonies and she listened to people speak. After listening to other people speak about religion, she finally got the courage to go up and talk herself, when she was 43. She has inspired many people of the stories she told about slavery, and i feel that everyone that has delt with it has been a part of our history. Old Elizabeth died when she was 101, in 1866. One of the last things she had done was write an autobiography named Memoir of Old Elizabeth, a Coloured Woman,  about her life, as a slave and getting out of slavery. She was 87 when she wrote the book. I wrote about Old Elizaebth becauseshe definatly inspired me, with all of the things she went through, and how she delt with them. In my eyes Old Elizabeth, is a hero!

SELFISH OR CHARITABLE?

When Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana Territory do you think that was was a fair thing to do to the people even though they had no money? I do feel that Thomas Jefferson was thinking about the people and thought that he got a great deal on the land that he purchased. I do think that with an offer that good for soo much land, it was extremely hard to pass up, therefore i do side with him with buying the land. He probly felt he was going to be able to pay the fee back right away. Buying the land gave the people more place to live and trade and they got the Mississippi River for many uses. I think that Thomas Jefferson streched what the elastic clause had to say, but he still followed the constitution. When I was younger, I had to get my dad a Christmas present so I went shopping for my mom. I went into a store and picked out a wallet. This wallet was 50 dollars, and I didn’t have that much money at the time. I feel in love with the wallet for him and I wanted to give it to my dad so i had to beg my mom to buy it and i told her I’d pay it back. It took me about 3 years to pay her back! My dad ended up loving it and he benifit from it just like the people that lived in the louisiana territory. This shows that sometimes when you really want something, you will find a way to get it. This helps me understand how Thomas Jefferson felt when he was getting the offer.

What does this quote mean to me??

“Do great leaders make history, or does history make great leaders?”

I feel that leaders make history because in order to have history, you have to have someone make the history. I do feel when people go over events in the past they portray them as much more than they really are.

Who’s my leader?

I feel Obama is a large leader to out entire country. He is a great public speaker, he thinks of others before himself, and he trys his best make others happy. Obama has showed his great public speaking during his election and also recently at the State Of The Union Address. Obama also had mentioned during his election that he wanted to give health insurance to everyone in America, which shows he thinks of others before himself. Obama has worked very hard for 2 years to try and help our country stay civilized. I think all of these “characteristics” portray how Barack Obama is a great leader.

MY THOUGHTS ON SIGNIFICANT OBJECT PROJECT

I feel my group definatly struggleed on coming up with a story for the significant object. My group liked to think about what we’re going to write and not just write down our thoughts. This definatly made us struggle throughout the whole thing. The day before the live auction, we were told that our story was to “fantasy” so we had to change the WHOLE thing. At that time we were in a rush, so our story definatly wasn’t as good as it could’ve been, becasue in my opionion we had alot of potential. I feel if we were to do this again mine would’ve been much better. I also was kind of “lost” when we were writting our story because at that time i didn’t understand exactly what needed to happen so if we were to do this again I would know what to do and how I could improve the story. My favorite thing about this “project” was that all the procedes go to Clinique Monique charity.

AM I A LEADER TO YOU?

What characteristics does a good leader have? In my opinion a good leader has to be courageous, willing to make risks, not think of themselves before others, trustworthy, and a leader definatly has to be confident. The most important characteristicts of a leader to me would have to be trustworthy and confident. If a leader wasn’y trustworthy nobody would put their trust in them which is what you need when your a leader. When your a leader you need the people around you to trust that you know what your doing. The most important to me, confident, would have to be because if a leader wasn’t confident they wouldn’t be able to tell themselves and the group that everything will be okay and a leader has to be confident in their abilities too.
Are leaders made?  or born? A person isn’t “born” a leader, or “made” a leader. Nobody can make someone become a leader. If a person wants to be a leader than they can be one, but under their own circumstances. A person isn’t born a leader either. When you are born, you become a human being, but what you want to do with your life, is up to you, and only you.
Describe a time when you were a leader. Throughout my life, at different instances I feel i have portrayed different leadership skills, which makes me a leader…sometimes. Nobody is perfect, which mean’s nobody can be a leader for their whole life. Twice in my life, I have been chosen, by teachers for leadership conferences so in most cases I am a leader, in my opinion but, definatly not all the time. I have no problem admitting that I sometime am not a leader because it’s true, like i said nobody is perfect. I have gotten grounded for doing things that I shouldn’t, which I n=know weren’t the right thing to do but, I think the reason everybody makes mistakes is so we can learn from them and make ourselves stronger people.
Describe a time when you followed a leader. This past week, I went to a leadership council and we we’re doing some “games” to get to know each other. During one activity there was a kid that had participated in the game before so we all listened to what he had to say. After listening to him, we all gave our opinion on how we thought we should adjust how to do the game but, I had no clue how to do it so I just stood back and listened to what they had to say because I knew that would be the best for my team.
Can anyone be a leader? Absolutly!! Anybody CAN be a leader but, they need to put energy into it and take initiative themselves. When oppertunities come the person needs to take control or at least TRY. If you try that shows people that you want to become a leader. I feel the only people holding yourself back, is you.
Are you a leader? I do try to be a leader but, I feel that I cannot judge if I am a leader myself. I feel that to be a leader the people around you have to say you are one, or feel you are one because I think most everyone makes themselves more superior in their own heads.
What are you strongest abilities as a leader? As a leader i think that I make other people feel better about themselves and more confidant. My favorite thing is to see other people become happy because of what I do, that’s what put’s a smile on my face. I also think that people feel I’m trustworthy, and I feel I am too. People can tell me things and I know that I won’t tell anybody aand they know that too. I’m also there for ANYBODY that needs someone. Some people I don’t like because of things they may have done to me or other reason that I won’t discuss, but I will be there for you if I know that your going through something because I know what it feels like to be hurt like that, or to loose someone. There are other traits too but those are the one’s that I feel are most important.
If you don’t consider yourself a leader, what is standing in the way? Like i said before, nobody’s perfect, and I’m not even close. I do have many faults and some things that are holding me back are how shy I am when I first get somewhere and I’m surrounded by people I don’t know. Once I break out of my “shell” I am a social butterfly, but if I still haven’t gotten to know anybody, I will be the girl alone in the corner….

WHAT’S SPECIAL TO YOU???

Everybody in the world most likely has an object that is very important to them, that they would never think about EVER getting rid of because of the sentimental value. I have a few of those kind of items, but this lamb is the first one of them to pop into my head. Most people will see this lamb and not realize how important to not only me, but also my entire family. When i was very young my Grandpa passed away. I don’t have much memory of him left so whatever i do have I cheerish greatly. There is a bit more about this lamb too. My grandpa loved cars whether it was working with them, driving them, or owning them, in fact he had 3 antique cars, 1953 Lincolns. He and a friend opened a car buisness and the lamb that my Grandpa gave me had a shirt, the one that the lamb is wearing, and it’s the name of the buisness and where it was. This is very special to me because everything that i can have that will remind me of my Grandpa I try to take for granade because i didn’t have much time to get to know him so I hope these things definatly keep what i know about him a part of me forever.

What’s something that’s important to you?

How has it effected your life?

How do you think it will effect your life in the future?

DECEMBER 21 2012

December 21st 2012 the world is supposedly going to end. I personally do not believe in any of the resonings. Just because the mayan calender ended then, doesn’t mean the world will end. The mayans may have just wanted to stop making the calander. On December 21st 2012 i predict the world WILL NOT end! I also predict there will be many celebrations on the 22nd, held by people who are convinced the world is going to end. I personally cannot wait for that day, just to say, “I’m still alive” and to prove people wrong!! Everybody has there beliefs and i respect that, i guess we”ll just have to wait until Decemeber 21st 2012….http://www.flickr.com/photos/l_cindy/4226785644/sizes/s/in/photostream/
