What Influenced Andrew Jackson as a President?
January 29, 2010Andrew Jackson’s life was very hard and there were some events that effected his whole life. During his childhood the Revolutionary War knocked out his whole family. He was the only one left. Another event was when he married. The women he married was already married. He did not know how that was going to effect his path to becoming the president of the United States. To me, Andrew Jackson seemed like an adventurous and risky leader. That may have been because in his childhood he would always fight with other kids, pull pranks, and cursed a lot.
How Do You Judge People?
January 25, 2010Most of the time I judge people on their actions. I do this because I never really take the time to investigate what made them do what they did, I just judge them by what they did. Sometimes it would depend on the situation. For an example, how would you judge the person that turned himself in? I would judge him on actions because he probably hit someone and thought that he could get away but he decided he couldn’t.
“The Land of The Free and The Home of The Brave”
January 12, 2010hAfter watching a video on the War of 1812, I had to look up the lyrics of the song the Star Spangled Banner or the ”National Anthem,” and analyze them. Francis Scott Key created the Star Spangled Banner. Here is the first verse from the song:
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
I am going to make an analysis about the first verse as shown above. I am going to tell you what they mean and I’m going to make a translation into my own words.
You can see the sunrise, So happy we cheered when the sun went down, America’s full stripes and shining stars through the risky fight, while being protected and the flag is bravely flying, the firework’s flames and the bombs exploding in the air, proved we did not lose the fight, the flag does fly on the pole, America is free and not afraid to fight.
“Old Ironsides”
January 8, 2010The battle of the USS Constitution and the Guerriere was a very famous battle in the War of 1812. The Guerriere started it off by firing at the Constitution. When they came in as close as 25 yards and firing at each other it was an intense battle. At some points in the battle the two boats were touching each other firing at each other. The force of pulling apart the two ships knocked over Guerriere’s foremast and soon later the mainmast. The USS Constitution was named “Old Ironsides” after taking so much ammunition against the sides of the boats.
Our Great American Symbol…
January 6, 2010I think we create symbols when we are in a depression or a hard time so that when we have to overcome a another hard time in the future, we can look back at the symbol and see that we made it through and never gave up. We create symbols to show something that someone has accomplished and when you look back on the symbol you remember what happened. We need symbols because they give you a memory of something they stand for and you remember symbols better than words. I think that the American flag should be considered a symbol because it shows all the wars America have been through, all the things the country has accomplished and our unity throughout the country. Also, all symbols have no words on them so that means anyone from any country can see and recognize any symbol. So, our American flag is recognized in almost every country in the world.
