“Old Ironsides”
The battle of the USS Constitution and the Guerriere was a very famous battle in the War of 1812. The Guerriere started it off by firing at the Constitution. When they came in as close as 25 yards and firing at each other it was an intense battle. At some points in the battle the two boats were touching each other firing at each other. The force of pulling apart the two ships knocked over Guerriere’s foremast and soon later the mainmast. The USS Constitution was named “Old Ironsides” after taking so much ammunition against the sides of the boats.
