The simple observations of a 13 year old geek

It’s funny how things work out…

Posted by josh on October 22, 2009

Yesterday my friend Chris came over to my house showing off his new fighting knife. A few days earlier my friend Kyle was showing me his new Airsoft gun, and Chad is always talking about his new rifle. Whenever my friends do this I just stood there nodding my head and secretely wishing that I had some sort of cool weapon of my own to show off. Well, God heard my plea and sent me a katana. I was walking through the woods listening to my little brother bothering Chris to let him use the knife and Chris telling him that he was too young and he’d hurt himself, when I saw it. All shiny and wonderful sitting, stuck in a block of wood, under a beam of light. Chris got to it first and tried to pull it out. Needless to say he failed, (otherwise I would be moping around in my room and he would be playing with his shiny new sword right now) So I stepped up planted my foot firmly on the wood and as arthur did with the mighty excalibur, pulled it out. So now I have a katana. Beat that fellow geeklings!

Any idea as to its provenance (where it came from)?

If you are going to hang on to something like that, you are going to need to learn about proper handling…and I’m not talking about how to swing it here. I’d suggest some research on the history of the katana and how to clean, maintain, and store it safely. In ancient Japan, swords were limited to the upper classes, as a sign of their status, and as a symbol of their responsibility to those lower in status and duty to those above. Some people hold swords to be sacred. You need to make sure that any tool, but especially a weapon, is always handled with utmost respect.

Thanks for the tips, Uncle Chris, the only problem is that this not a real katana. It is a piece of junk. It is not sharp it is just a false katana used for martial arts forms, most likely kenpo. Also it is rusted through the chrome.
