Romans in America?

By Romans in America, I mean that we have Roman architecture in our nation’s capitol, Washington D.C.  The Jefferson Memorial is the perfect example of Classical Revival architecture.  Sure, in the picture you can’t see it but there is a dome on the monument.  Another piece of Roman architecture is the columns in the front of the building.  Like most buildings in Washington D.C., it is made out of white stone another thing adopted from the Romans.  So, we are in America, but we have Roman architecture.

Rome was an important early democracy. Let’s hope we keep true to its political origins as well as its architectural traditions.
