Commenting Guidelines.

Dearest Internet,

Comments are great.  When I log in and see I have comments I’m happy.  Comments also let me know if I’m connecting (or not connecting) with all four of you visitors.  BUT, here are some commenting guidelines…

1.  I moderate my comments.  Please don’t spam me.

2.  Don’t be mean.  I’m okay with criticism, but not where the ENTIRE WORLD can see it.

3.  Leave a link to your blog!  If you leave a link I will most likely visit your blog and leave a comment there!

4.   Tell me something you liked about my post.  Don’t just say “nice post”.  Tell me what you liked, or if I asked a question, answer it!

5.  Make your comment like a letter.  Example: Dear Kevin, “your comment here” -Your Name

6. Check back on my post!  If you comment, I will reply.  Check back for my reply and write back again so we can have a conversation!

7. Please don’t use abbreviations like “jk” or “lol”.  I find that more for texting or instant messaging.  To me, leaving a comment that the whole world can see should be formal, and I want your comments to look formal too.

8. Be Happy!  Be happy and have an open sense of humor, because you never know when I will crack a joke (or two)!

Thanks for reading!

-Kevin

    Dear Kevin,
I thought it was hilarious when you said all four visitors. I did that with some kid once about the Raiders. Anyway, good guidelines, everything seems fair.

    Christian

    Dear Kevin,
I work for a school district, and I think your blogging guidelines are excellent. I found your blog by following your teacher’s link on Twitter. Keep up the good work!

    G’day Kevin,
Love the guidelines. I wish all students and teachers would fill in their blog URL under website on their profile page, because that then links with their comment avatar, so they don’t need to leave a link to their blog then. All you, the owner, have to do is click on either their name or avatar and you will be able to get to their blog.

Congrats on taking part in the student challenge. Will you take part again in March 2011?

    Miss W.

    Dear Kevin,
Thank you for sharing your guidelines. It can be so much more effective to ask for what we want/need instead of assuming and being aggravated. I forget that and appreciate the reminder you provide here. I like that you lay it out. I also can relate to #2 — very easy for people to forget their manners at times.

    Best to you,
    Aimee

    Dear Kevin,
I love your guidelines. I found them by following your teacher’s link on Twitter. Do you mind if I refer people to them in my own blog?
    Thank you,
    Sandy

    Dear Sandy,

You may use the guidelines as long as you credit it by leaving a link to my blog. Thanks!
