Zebulon Pike’s Exploration of 1805
Our textbook did a good job to describe Zebulon Pike’s exploration. They didn’t put a lot of details in it though. Some they missed were:
- Hon June 24
- He brought 20 soldiers and 50 freed Osage prisoners
- They tried to climb what is now called Pike’s Peak but failed because of its 14,000 ft high summit, so they climbed a smaller summit called likely Mt. Miller, which is named after a man with them
I would make the book more kid friendly by adding more pictures and maybe using more kid friendly words. I think having pictures would make it easier to understand because some people are visual learners. I would also try to find ways to connect it to middle schoolers, so we can understand it better and relate to how they felt.
