How Would Andrew Jackson be as President?

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 9:59 AM

Andrew Jackson, in my opinion, will be a great president because of his upbringing. He has experienced many hardships of being raised a poor boy and knows what it is like to live off of very little. He will probably be a good president because he was a poor boy and won’t want anyone else to suffer the problems of being lower class. I believe that he will also be a good president because he is not wealthy, so he will, in my opinion, not just be there to govern, but to govern and make America a better place. He at one point owned 3 houses. These are reasons why I think Jackson will be a great president.

How Should People Be Judged

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 9:42 AM

My class did a group discussion about whether someone should be defined for their actions or intentions. This is the question that we were asked:

“Should we define someone by their actions or their intentions?“

I think that you should define a person based on their intentions because someone could say one thing and mean something else entirely. For example, if someone was being mean, it could either be because they don’t yet know how to talk to people politely.

On the other hand, I believe that you should also judge somebody on their actions because if you have no family problems and are completely sane (not seeing a shrink) then you should be able to control yourself and resist the urge to be mean just because you can.

The Burning of the White House

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 2:26 PM

During the war of 1812, the Americans burned down the British Parliament building. The British could do nothing about it, however. The British were busy fighting the French at the time. When the British had defeated Napoleon, they marched straight for the one city they knew the Americans cherished: The Capitol.

As the British marched toward the Capitol, Americans were evacuated. President James Madison was nowhere to be found. There were only a few people left in the city: Dolley Madison and several others.

The sky had glowed fire red from the burning of the White House. The fires of the city could be seen from over 50 miles in each direction. The Americans were at their mercy. And just when all hope seemed lost, a hurricane blew in. The British were devastated at the sight of the American’s new ally: Mother Nature.

Immediately following the hurricane (which was the strongest in years), a tornado came along and crushed the British’s hopes of escaping unscathed.

The American Flag As a Symbol

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 9:47 AM

The American Flag could be considered a symbol because of what it inspires us as Americans to do. For example, it could make people believe that the flag is of such importance that everyone should cherish and worship it. Also it could be a symbol because it is so meaningful to all Americans ( hopefully).

The American Flag can be a symbol for many different qualities. To me it is a symbol of freedom, because we claimed ourselves a free nation.  Great Britain fought us for it during the American Revolution, and we won, thus making the flag symbolic to me.

Symbols and Their Importance

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 9:39 AM

We create symbols when we need something to think about and also, at times, to worship. If I have a picture of something from a long time ago, then I would cherish it because it would be my symbol of hope and wonder. People need symbols because without them, your life would proably be very dull and boring. If I didn’t have any symbols then I would have nothing to live for and wouldn’t much care for anything. You may even have a symbol and not even know it.

We create symbols for us to express our individualism. For example, I believe that if two people happen to have the same exact thing for a symbol, then chances are that their meaning of that symbol is different. For example, I could think that the American Flag is symbolic of freedom, while my friend could think that it symbolizes love.

Why Music is My Passion

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 1:24 PM

Something that is my passion is music. I like to play the guitar and like listening to music as well. I think that music is a way to express yourself. I have been playing guitar for about 2 years now and I enjoy every moment of it. I have an electric and an acoustic guitar. I got my acoustic about 2 Christmases ago and my electric about 1 year ago. I am hoping to get another guitar and expand my collection.

Music that I enjoy listening to is modern rock bands and some alternative. Bands that I listen to are Nickelback, 30 Seconds to Mars, Green Day, and other music.

Beliefs On Student Rights

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 2:27 PM

My beliefs on a student’s rights are that any students should have freedom of speech, and not just in public, but in school too. Im pretty sure it is not yet illegal to express your opinion to people. Another right I believe we as students should have is being able to leave the room whenever you want without permission. No one needs to know what your going to do in the bathroom, but at least tell them your leaving the room to do something and that you’ll be right back. My third right that I think we should have is we can do whatever goes on outside of school inside of school. This will help us learn how to behave in the real world. Those are my beliefs on the rights of students.

Something That I…

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 10:01 AM

Something that I do is play the electric guitar. I do this because I think that it would be cool if I got into a band with some of my friends. I’ve been playing for almost 2 years, so I think that I am pretty good.

If I was in a band, we could play some songs that have (and haven’t) been created yet. My guitar teacher is also in a band, and he played a show recently. My dad went, and he was blown away by the performance. He didn’t expect anything less from him, but it was spectacular.

Perfect Classroom

Filed under: Uncategorized —— kylet @ 2:15 PM

My idea on the prefect classroom is one where nobody does anything stupid and does everything right. If everyone does this, then nothing goes wrong, and you get done faster. Those are my views on the perfect classroom. Since this never happens, there can’t be a perfect classroom.
