Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767. He was born without a father. Heonly had his mother and his 3 brothers. He became a soldier at a very young age. But, he was taken prissoner by a British prison ship. After his mom saved him she died a few months later along with his brothers who died in the war. He was all alone and decided to become a teacher. He then decided to study law. In 1791 he got married to Rachel Robards. Rachel was married but separated from her former husband Lewis Robards. Someone told hm that he would become a good president if he ran and that started his career. The first time he won for president he didn’t win. But, the second time he did win and became the seventh president.
I believe that he wouldn’t be a very good president because he was raised mostly by himself and when making decisions he would only think of himself and not the rest of the community. His first day in office he threw a huge party and invited everyone. The White House was a mess and he had to sleep somewhere else. These would most likely be common and not much work would be finished.
I believe that we should focus on people’s actions rather than on their intentions. Actions, before they are done, can be thought over before you do it. The intentions may not be bad, but the action may cause negative consequences; that is if someone committed a crime to try to make a change for the better. For criminals, almost all the time, the action is what puts you behind bars. Even for people who don’t rob banks, all actions have an effect, even if you have a good reason with a good intention.
There is a song that all Americans know, and when we sing it, we don’t think about where it came from or what it’s really about. That song is The Star Spangled Banner. The song was written by Francis Scott Keyafter the War of 1812 ended. To understand the meaning of the song more, I “translated” the first verse in my words for you. What I meant by first verse was that there are 4 verses to The Star Spangled Banner. We usually sing only the first verse.
Can you now see this morning
the proud flag at the battle last night?
With it’s red and white stripes and blue and white stars, in the middle of the dangerous brawl,
Over the ships we watched the bravery flowing in the air.
The rockets flying and the bombs exploding in midair,
But the flag survived the whole night of the battle.
the American Flag now waves in the air
Over the free country and coragous citizens.
Here is the real song and the rest of the verses. Lyrics
During the War of 1812, a ship called the U.S.S. Constitution was used during battle; at sea of course. On August 2ndof 1812, it left Boston with many sailors looking for a fight with the British. On August 18, they found a British ship called the HMS Guerriere. The European ship didn’t have any powerful ammo except the crew on the ship, who are known for the victories in ship-to-ship combat. When the British attacked the Americans, they didn’t take much damage, the Americans shot back with only a few guns and not much damage was received for the British either. The brawl went on for a day or 2, and then the Constitution fired their guns and hit the British with great accuracy. After taking the hits, the Guerriere gave up and sank. The European survivors were then turned into prisoners for the Americans. And that was the America’s first victory in the War of 1812.
I was supposed to use an image for this post, but the computer is not cooperating. So, the website I used for my research was this one. I was going to use the picture in the corner for this post, so pretend that it’s on here…if you want to…
Symbols play a very important part in our lives. There are many types of symbols we see today. Like street signs, logos for companies, the small pictures on a map. But sometimes, we don’t notice them or ever actually think about them when we see them. Why are they there anyway? I’ll tell you what I think. Since the beginning of time, humans use symbols to communicate based on how they’re feeling and what they see. Some of the symbols may have been passed on to our time period. Symbol are used for almost everything that exists. Some symbols are created to represent a person, place, or a thing.
One very important and valuable symbol I know of is the American flag. I think it is considered a symbol because it shows that we
are a successful country. It also represents the 50 states (50 stars) and the 13 colonies (13 stripes).
I have many passions. One of my passions is drawing. Earlier, I have written a post on my drawing skills. So, I will talk about another passion instead. Another one of my passions is music. Ever since I was little, I have loved music. Music is very important to me because life would be boring without it. I take dance class (and that’s another passion of mine.) The dance lessons have helped me with my sense of rhythm and it also exposes me to all kinds of genres of music that sometimes inspire me. I play the clarinet and I love the sound it makes. I have been playing it ever since I had the opportunity in 4th grade. I don’t remember why I signed up to take an instrument and why I chose the clarinet, but I’m glad I made those decisions. I have appreciated music more since then.
When I started playing video games, I have not noticed the music much, but now it’s my favorite part of the games. Most of the songs in the games are complex and amazing. Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii has beautiful music in and it is a joy to listen to. Most of the games I play have cool songs. Sometimes, I will try to play the songs on my clarinet. One of my favorite songs I can play is Gourmet Race from the Kirby games. I always practice that song because I love it so much. Recently, I have been playing Legend of Zelda games. Some of the Zelda games involve musical instruments. Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64) has an unusual but real instrument called the ocarina. Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS/DSi) allows you to play a special flute called a pan flute. They are unusual instruments indeed but they sound wonderful and I would love to learn how to play the ocarina myself.
I love music and it is my passion! Down below are some pictures of the ocarina (left) and the pan flute (right).
Merry early christmas! Just a few days ago I decked the top header with a christmas tree. It’s snowing on this page too! But, it’s not easy to see…
Speaking of snow, we had 2 snowstorms already. It’s supposed to snow on Christmas Day. Yay for a “white christmas”!
Last Saturday, it snow to about 6ins. I was leaving for NYC that night. We left early so we didn’t have to get stuck in the snow. We went to a hotel to stay at so we can ride the train the next morning. We went to the movies that night because to was walking distance of the hotel, and it began to snow during the movie. We got to walk back to the hotel in a “winter wonderland”. On Sunday, the roads were a mess, and there was slush everywhere on the city streets. We first went to Rockefeller Center and saw the giant tree. Then, near by, I went to my favorite place in New York. The Nintendo World store! (go ahead, call me a nerd) I love going there because they sell cute stuffed animals of the characters and you can see the old systems on display. From the past few visits I bought a Yoshi and a Kirby. In the afternoon we saw… Shrek the Musical. It was a great show. It was funny too. The short king was played by a tall man. He kneeled and walked on his knees to look short. Fake feet were attached to his legs and he his real feet were hidden with a cape. I personally like the musical better than the movie.
As a Super Smash Brothers fan, I am REALLY exited about the original Smash Bros. game coming to Virtual Console. Thanks Nintendo for that early christmas present!
I will end this post here. Merry Christmas and to all a good night!
I think the following quote is sometimes helpful and funny to me.
”When in doubt, choose C.” I like this quote for no particular reason, probably because it’s funny. I don’t look up to this quote all the time, and I usually take educated guesses on a test. But, when I really don’t know the answer and when I’m in doubt, I would usually choose C or otherwise.
