From playing football, I have the "hitting" mentality - or the mentality of wanting to go full out on another person; however, I believe it is completely inappropriate and can lead to serious danger if one pushes for a fight if the problem can be solved non-violently (and in most cases is can). I think there are many ways to take a stand besides directly confronting someone or something. With the bullying that typically happens at all school sites, simply refusing to laugh is a pretty effective way to deflate a bully without coming off as challenging him/her.
