War Hawks

Our textbook did a good job explaining the War Hawks and what they believed. The only thing is that the textbook painted a picture that the War Hawks were bad people. They really weren’t bad people, they just believed in war. That could be bad, but it doesn’t make them bad people. They explained the War Hawks very good. I believe what they believe. War could be bad, but then again it could be good. In this case, the War Hawks believed that War could expand the nation. In the end of the War of 1812, did, as a matter of fact, expand the nation.

Love is a Choice:Queen Victoria&Prince Albert

In 1840, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert get married.
Prince Albert and Queen Victoria were the Queen and Prince of Monaco. The marriage they had was arranged but it was said that Victoria fell head over heals for Albert. Victoria was 20 years old when she tied the knot with Albert. Victoria relied greatly on advice that her husband gave her and he became a great influence on Monaco. Prince Albert became known and admired for his honesty, diligence, and his devotion to his family. During their marriage, Victoria and Albert had 9 children. In 1861, Albert died and Victoria was devastated. She did not show her face in public for 3 years. She also wore black for 40 years to show mourning for her husband. Prince Albert and Queen Victoria had great love for each other.

The best example of leadership is leadership by example.

Someone who is a leader in my life is definitely my mom. She’s wonderful and has all the characteristics of a great leader. She can speak her mind, she’s very good at organizing things, and she’s great at making decisions. Sometimes when I’m in a position where I can’t make up m mind between two things, she’s there to help me. She gives me advice all the time, like when I’m having trouble with on of my friends, and we are fighting or something like that, she helps me solve the problem. She can speak her mind and say what she needs to say. Sometimes what she says isn’t very good, but that’s okay because it’s better to let things out then bottle them up inside. She is always cleaning and organizing the house, or organizing a party for her and her friends, or just a get together with a few of her friends, or family members. My mom is a great leader and I look up to her.

Do Great Leaders Make History?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikayla at 11:27 am on Friday, January 28, 2011

“Do great leaders make history? Or does history make great leaders?”

I don’t believe that history makes great leaders, I think that great leaders make history. If we didn’t have such great leaders in out country, we would have no history, therefore great leaders make history. For example, Rosa Parks. She was a great leader. In the 60′s whites were treated so much better than the blacks. Rosa Parks was a black female who disagreed with all the rules that the country had made for the blacks and whites. They weren’t allowed to use the same water fountain, bathroom, restaurant, and even seats on the bus. The whites were told to sit in the back of the bus and the blacks were told to sit in the front. Rosa Parks did not like this rule so one day she walked onto the bus and sat in the back, ignoring everyone that told her to move to the front. She just stayed there and didn’t care what other people said. In the end she got arrested, but she made a difference and made history for being a great leader.

The Holder of History

The significant object project that our class did these past couple of weeks was so much fun. My groups object was an old fashioned candle holder. Our story stated that George Washington used this candle holder when he wrote his farewell address for light. Presenting the objects in front of an live audience was really cool. I love that all the money we raise will go to Clinique Monique. It’s a really great way to raise money for people who are struggling in Mali, Africa.

Lead the Way!

There are all kinds of different good leaders and people who have good leadership. One good leader is someone who can stay calm and be stress-free while working. A leader can piggy back off of people’s ideas and in cooperate everyone’s idea into the project. There is also a type of leader who can stand up for themselves and leave a situation when it becomes bad, or when the situation is something they can’t handle. Leaders are made, not born. You can’t be born a leader, you have to become one. Becoming a leader depends on your upbringing, how you were raised, and what kind of people your guardians are. It also depends on what type of people you hang out with and how your group behaves. If your group of friends is the bad type, you are willing to follow along with what they do and be a follower, not a leader. I was once a leader when all my friends hated my other friend. I stood up for myself and told them to stop talking bad about her because I actually liked her. One time I followed a leader when my best friend decided to hate another one of my best friends. I followed her into hating that person, which I realize now was a dumb mistake. Not everyone is a leader. Some people don’t have the qualities to be a leader and are better to be a follower. Some people can’t stand up for themselves like a leader would be able to do so they become followers. Sometimes I am a leader and sometimes I’m not. Most of the time I try to stand up for myself by being a leader, but sometimes I give in and become a follower. When I am a leader my strongest abilities probably are that I am able to stand up for myself and I don’t care what people think of me when I do stand up for myself. Sometimes I give in, though and I’m scared what certain people think about me. Most of the time I don’t care, but there could be one person every now and then that I just tend to follow and I’m not a leader.

Burt’s Bees

This chap stick may mean nothing to you and it may just be an ordinary chap stick that you can just buy at the store but this chap stick kind of means a lot to me. I bought this Burt’s Bees Lip Balm during the summer when I went camping with my four very close friends. It was towards the beginning of the summer and I’m quite surprised that it lasted as long as it has lasted. This summer was probably the best summer I have ever had so the chap stick reminds me of all the great times I had during the wonderful summer. I went on so many vacations, one to New Jersey, one to Cape Cod, I went on another camping trip with my cousins, and I spent a week with my aunt helping with my little cousins. I also spent so much time with all my friends. Everywhere I went that chap stick was with me and it came in handy when I went to the beach because my lips get very chapped when I go to the beach. As you can probably tell from the picture that the wrapper is a little beaten up because I took that chap stick so many places this summer but the chap stick is still is VERY good condition!

December 21, 2012

A lot of people believe that on this day the world will end by Earth’s collision with a passing planet. I’m sure many people will prepare for this day by doing multiple things to help save themselves. I’m not so sure I believe in this theory but on December 21, 2012 I will spend the day with my family in case the world does end. I will prepare for anything to happen by gathering things that are important to me and keeping them in a safe place near me. The days that lead up to this day I will cherish just in case the world does come to in end, I will know I lived a good life and lived each day to the fullest.

US Navy Ships: Now and Then

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikayla at 11:36 am on Sunday, December 19, 2010

There is a huge difference between the modern Navy ships and the ones the Navy used in the 1700′s. First of all, the ship they used in 1794 was a huge sailboat, with large sails, and didn’t have a motor, like the Navy ships have nowadays. The ships back then were made from all wood, today they are made of so many different things like metal and steel. Today, the Navy ships have so much technology in them. There are so many computers and systems to help keep the Navy safe. Back then, they had technology to keep their Navy safe but it was VERY different from what we have today. There are also many similarities between the ships. They both do the same job of keeping the water safe and making sure no one is doing anything illegal.

The Best Question in the World!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mikayla at 10:23 am on Sunday, December 19, 2010

I’m sure many of us think of this question every day. “What would happen if…?” I know I go up to my friends a lot and say “What would happen if I looked like this?” or “What would happen if I talked like that?” So I wonder what would happen if everyone was home schooled and none of us actually went to a school building, educated through our parents? The world would be SO different. I wouldn’t have the friends I have from school, I would just know people through sports. There would be no school sports, only town sports, which aren’t as competitive as school sports but more for fun. There would be some positive things about everyone being home schooled though. There would be no drama, like there is in every school across the country. We wouldn’t be able to get suspended or expelled and there would be no detentions. There would be pros and cons about everyone being home schooled. I prefer going to school everyday and seeing all my friends.
