Idea Flight

Idea Flight is a wonderful app for IPad. My class was given 15 IPads to test out the new app Idea Flight, which is used for presentations, in class.  I did three presentations on Idea Flight and it was wonderful and easy to use. Our teacher, Mr. Bougsh used it for quite a few presentations for introductions to our whole class. It was simple to download and use. The “passengers” are able to load onto the pilot’s presentation instantly. A few ideas to change on Idea Flight are the following. I make it so you are able to make a presentation on the Idea Flight app itself. This should be necessary because many peole who many want to use this is app may not have a google account. It would also save time to load it onto Idea Flight because it would already be on there. Another idea to add  is a no talk question. While a “pilot” is presenting a passenger should be able to click on a button called question and a bunch of pre-typed questions should be written such as ”Clearify, Speak Up, Need More Information, etc.” so  that it sends to the pilot only and he/she can read it silently to themselves and them do what it says to help their presentation better. I hope this helps make the app better than it already is!

My Family In Objects

Posted on December 5th, 2011 in Uncategorized by NicoleC12

Cameras- A camera can describe my family because we are always taking pictures. Everyone in my household has a camera. My mom and dad share a high-quality kodak, My two sisters have a digital and I have a digital coolpix. We take a lot of pictures mostly because a journal is only worth the words that you write but a picture is worth a million words.

Music- Where ever we go we bring my mom’s laptop because it has thousands of songs on it. My family always has the radio or some sort of music on. Even when we leave the house for a little bit we leave the radio on to comfort my dog.

Videos- I’m not talking about movies or youtube videos or even television. My family will take one night and watch home videos together as a family. We sprall out on the floor laughing with pain in our stomachs and not able to let in air. Or sometimes curl up into a ball or hide our faces in embarassment.

Camper- My family has a pop-up camper and we love to go camping. We go in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and many other places. We roast marshmellows and bring friends as well as make them. Trying new places is mostly what we do in camping. We travel all over Connecticut and visit nearby states.

Dogs- My family loves dogs. My dad had two growing up, my mom had one growing up, and now my sisters and I have one growing up. Our dogs are always considered family. We give them treats, love, walks and sneak food from the table that we really don’t want to eat. My sisters and I always beg our parents to bring us to Petco or the pet shop in the mall to go and hold a dog. But we all know what that leads to when they agree with bringing us there and we see a cute dog… “Can we get it? I’ll feed it everyday. I’ll walk it. We will put in a little money!” I am kind of suprised they still bring us there knowing  what we are going to say when we see one we love.

Life In My World

Posted on December 5th, 2011 in Uncategorized by NicoleC12

My life in one word, one sentence, three parts and one paragraph is the following:

Imperfect

My life is always different because it has the excellent and awful things all tied up together in it.

My life is Family and Friends, School and Teachers, and Gymnastics.

Friends and family play a huge role in my life. Without them I know that I would not be a level 6 in gymnastics and I sure wouldn’t be as confident as I am now. They both help my with decisions, homework, life and I know that they can always lend me a hand. They are someone that I can lean on. They have a shoulder that I can cry on. They have a heart in which I belong in and they are in mine too. I can tell them absolutley anything and know that they can keep it a secret. My family is always there. Now I can say that without even thinking twice because it’s true. They were there when I was born, baptized, all my birthdays, my communion and will be at my confermation, graduation and my wedding. I love them with all of my heart and hope that they stay with me my whole life.

Slouch

I joined and did the one word challange. Todays word was slouch. The following is my paragraph that I wrote from this word.

“In school there was this boy named Rick who sat away from everyone else. People made fun of him. His eyes were slowly closing and he had bags under them. You could eaisly tell he had no sleep. He would slouch in his seat and never listen to the teacher. Maybe it was because of the big science final today. I wish I asked him to join me and my friends yesterday to study. It looks like he could of used the help. I hope he doesn’t fail. Well what is done is done. But, after class I asked him to hang out with me sometime and maybe study. The next day he had a smile on his face from ear to ear. That afternoon we went to the library and talked and drew other people. From that day on Rick has been my best friend.”

Naturalization

Posted on December 1st, 2011 in Uncategorized by NicoleC12

To me the process of naturalization is already hard enough. The process of naturalization or the process of becoming a U.S. citizen is very long. You have to take a few long tests on the history on the United States, the U.S’s laws and customs and also who is incharge along with how government works. So I personally think that the process of naturalization sould stay the same.

The Present And The Past

Posted on November 28th, 2011 in Uncategorized by NicoleC12

Our middle school class got 15 Apple IPads! On our first week with them we made a presentation. My presentation was on how a law is passed. I talked about all the stages that it has to go through to become a law (click here to see my presentation). i did it on google docuents and showed it to my class on a new app that isn’t released yet. The app is really great. It lets the person presenting be the director. At meetings and in school or presentations if you hand out papers some are reading and some are following and others are behind. So everyone is concentrating on a different thing. With this app everyone is on the same subject and you control it.

Now since Thanksgiving just passed a fact that many people may not know is the following. For all of us or atleast most of us Thanksgiving is only one day. Since we only celebrate it for one day people think that the first Thanksgiving only lasted one day. Now this isn’t true. the first Thanksgiving actually lasted three days. The Pilgrims and Indians feasted for three days celebrating Thanksgiving. another fun fact is everyone knows about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This parade is on television every year with huge balloon characters and floats. Well this parade tradition began in the 1920′s. Click here to see the website where I got my facts on Thanksgiving.

Just What’s Going On

Posted on November 4th, 2011 in Uncategorized by NicoleC12

Hi everyone!!! This post is just what’s going on in my life right now. Yesterday I missed my bus and sadly had to walk home. Of course on that day I had to bring home my social studies book which is 2inches big and weighs a ton, my science book, my purse, and this bag full of materials that I used for a class in school. So I was really tired when I got home and almost fell asleep. But everything ois okay now. Suprisingly I got home not too long after when I would usually get home. So other than that I am wonderful. I think that this first marking period went by so fast that I really can not belive it. This year is going to fly by so fast and then it’s on to high school but I’ll still talk to you guys.

Stamp Act Isn’t All That Stampy

Posted on November 2nd, 2011 in Uncategorized by NicoleC12

When you hear the term the Stamp Act you may only think about stamps, but that is not what it is all about. The Stamp Act was a tax where colonial colonists had to pay for a special stamp or seal whenever they bought paper items. This tax was a law for only about a year. It was passed by British Parliament on March 22, 1765 and ended on March 17, 1766. The Stamp Act was a big source of friction between colonists and the government.

The Stamp Act was introduced by prime minister George Grenville. Many colonists, some that are famous now, gave into the Stamp Act. Even Benjamin Franklin, then a colonial agent in London, gave his acquiescence to the plan. Thomas Hutchinson was a lieutenant for the Stamp Act Congress. The Stamp Act was viewed as a direct attempt made by England to raise money in the colonies without the approval of the colonial legislatures. This is a lot of the colonists that were involved in the Stamp Act.

The Stamp Act was created for more than one reason. To follow the Stamp Act law a colonist had to pay for a stamp or a seal whenever they bought paper products. The tax purpose is to help pay for troops stationed in North America. Prime Minister Grenville heard complaints about the Sugar Act and thought of the Stamp Act to help pay for the military expenses. The money from this tax was also used to help pay for the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier near the Appalachian Mountains. This is why the Stamp Act was created in the first place.

A big question is what was the money from the Stamp Act tax spent on? Well this money was spent on a variety of things. One of the spending drains was on the colonies. Some of the money also went to help pay the troops for protecting the colonies. The troops are not the only the only parts of war that cost money but the war itself cost money. So a lot of money was used to fight in the war against the French and the Indians in the colonies. This is the main things that the money from the tax was used on.

The Stamp Act may have help and weakened the colonies. Many of the colonists lost a lot of money paying for the tax and following the law. Even though it may have cost them a lot of money it helped them have freedom from the French and the Indians and also keep their colonies safe. It may have helped or weakened the colonies but it was only a law for a little less than a year. It was very close to a year but just under. It was passed on March 22, 1765 and stopped on March 17, 1766. So now do you think of stamps when you hear the name the Stamp Act or is it something else?
