Andrew Jackson

Filed under: Uncategorized — rachaels at 2:22 pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Andrew Jackson he had a very hard life. Andrew Jackson lost his father before he was born. He also lost his mother and his brother also when he was very young.  He was put into an orphanage when he was 13 years old. I believe that losing his entire family shaped him the way he was as a president.

Andrew Jackson ran for president after he resigned as senate in 1825.  Both of the candidates who ran had a wide spread of rumors like Jackson’s wife being accused of bigamy. Andrew Jackson’s wife Rachel died the night before the inauguration. Jackson was re-elected in 1832 against Henry Clay.  Jackson won that election as well.

Andrew Jackson did not oppose against slavery but he did treat his slaves with respect. Andrew Jackson did end up having several slaves. But he also adopted slaves, Hannah and Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson purchased his first slave in 1794 and sixty- six years later his family owned over three hundred slaves.

Andrew Jackson is known for many good or bad things. The people ethier hated or loved him. Andrew Jackson was a very smart man and a good president.

Stereotypes

I  believe that stereotypes did influence the African and European relationships. In way like the color of  the slaves skin made the Europeans believe that the Africans were beneath them and that they weren’t the same as them because of the color of their skin.  Yes, I do believe that stereotypes do influence peoples lives today. For example, That blonde’s are "dumb" or that  women are "better" drivers than men.  I do not think that you can stop the continuation of stereotypes. But a way you can stop is to ot listen to them and to not spread them around.  I do believe that stereotypes will be apart of society.

Trust.

I think that I am the person I am today because I have gone through  so many things in my life. Like I know  that I cannot trust  certain people anymore . I always have to be aware of what people say  and I need to make sure its true.  I find that trust is the key of a true friendship and if you can’t trust someone there not a true friend.

What do you think?

I asked 15 people of what they think about the American Flag and these are the words that people said.

2646448163_c100fee1fc  The U.S. Star Spangle Banner what does it mean to me? I need to translate the first verse of the Star Spangle Banner in my own words. (my verision is under the original)

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light

Can you see the dawns early light?

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?

What so proudly we hail at the night times last lighting?542405087_a08573d400

Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,

What long stripes and bright stars thru the dangerous fight,

O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

For the barricade that we watched that were so bravely streaming?

And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

And the rockets red glare, whose bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

It went through the night that our flag was still there

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

What does that Star Spangled Banner wave?
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Land for the free and the home for all brave.

Dolley Madison is an 1812 war hero because she risked her life to save a paintining of George Washington. Dolley Madison is a true hero of our history because she literally risked her life to save a picture of our history and some very important documents. 542405087_a08573d400  The flag we created it to represent something therefore  its a symbol. The flag was created to represent freedom of our country. What I’m trying to say, is that symbols are created when people try to accomplish things just like the American flag. We need symbols to show what people or a group has accomplished. The American flag for an example is a great accomplishment to show what Americans tried to accomplish to get freedom.

Holiday’s

Now that Thanksgiving has passed the stress begins!

Christmas is a time of togetherness. When you get to see family you have not seen in a while. When you get to enjoy the all the happiness that your family has. The excitement of everyone opening gifts.  Even though there are all of these great times there is a ton of stress! Trying to find the perfect gift for your parents because you know they deserve it. Trying to figure out what people want. Trying to spend just enough money so you have enough for yourself.  Preparing the food, and the house, and the Christmas tree. Its worth it at the end when you see everyones reactions and the togetherness. Its quite a releif actually.
