From the beginning of 1812, The Britains and Americans began a war. They went back and forth killing eachother. Most victories were made by the British, and were continuing that streak. In 1814, after chasing the Americans back to Washington, they burned down the state capitol and the white house. Dolly Madison was the wife of the President, James Madison. She was born on May 20th, 1768 in Guilford County, North Carolina. When her husband was off in the war, she took care of her younger sister Anna. In 1814, Dolly recieved news from her husband that the British were making there way to Washington. Before she avacuated the house, she grabbed the picture of George Washington, broke it out of the frame, and brought it with her out of the house. Dolly Madison died on July 12th, 1849 at her home in Washington D.C. The legend of Dolly will live on forever, we will remember what she has done. She risked her life to save a portrait.
